Teck Highland Valley Copper

Teck Highland Valley Copper (HVC) is a large open-pit copper and molybdenum mine located approximately 17 km west of Logan Lake, BC on Highway 97C. The mine operates within the Traditional Territory of the Nlaka’pamux First Nation. It has been in operation since the mid-sixties and is one of the largest copper mines in North America. Teck HVC provides employment to approximately one thousand people.

Teck HVC is a member of the Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative. TSM outlines that members must engage with communities, be committed to the safety of employees and surrounding communities, and have sound environmental practices. Further, Teck HVC has devised its own sustainability strategy which has seven core components: community, water, our people, biodiversity, energy, climate change, and air. For each of these categories Teck HVC has developed short and long term goals.
